Lorient has appointed Alexandre Dujeux as coach for the next two seasons, replacing Olivier Pantaloni. Dujeux, 50, was appointed on Tuesday as Lorient's coach for the next two seasons. He had been in charge of Angers since March 2023. The new Lorient coach had reached an agreement with his former club to terminate his contract, which still had two years to run. Former defender with over 400 professional games at Châteauroux, Ajaccio or Tours, Dujeux then turned to a coaching career, working with Pantaloni, whom he had assisted at Tours, before becoming Gérald Baticle's assistant at Ajaccio and then at Angers from 2021. Lorient, he says in the statement, is 'a structured, ambitious and constantly progressing club, which relies on a solid methodology to continue advancing'. The Merlus had not managed to retain Pantaloni after two seasons that were nonetheless full of results and play. Despite a substantial financial offer, the Corsican technician refused to extend his contract due to a potential break clause inserted into his contract, which he interpreted as a sign of the club's distrust towards him. Olivier Pantaloni could quickly bounce back at Lens if the departure of current coach Pierre Sage to Crystal Palace is confirmed. Meanwhile, Angers did not take long to find a successor to Dujeux, as the Black and Whites announced the arrival of Stéphane Gilli, 52, on their bench for two seasons. Gilli had been dismissed as Paris FC coach at the end of February, despite having promoted the second club in the capital to the top flight the previous season. Before that, he had also had a long career as a number two, working with Mecha Bazdarevic, René Girard or Vahid Halilhodzic in clubs or national teams. Lorient is a club that competes in Ligue 1, the French football championship. The Merlus have a rich history and a solid base of supporters. The club was founded in 1926 and has won several national and international titles. Lorient is also known for its youth academy, which has trained many talented players. The club plays its home games at the Stade du Moustoir, which has a capacity of over 18,000 seats. Lorient is a club that seeks to progress and reach the heights of French football. With Dujeux's appointment, the club hopes to continue progressing and achieving its goals.
