Lorient unveiled its new coaching staff on Monday 6 June, with two assistants arriving from Angers, marking the first training session under Alexandre Dujeux. The club, sitting 9th in Ligue 1 with 45 points (11 W‑12 D‑11 L) and a recent form of LWDLW, aimed to stabilise its backroom after Yannick Cahuzac’s departure.
Who makes up Dujeux’s new staff?
Alexandre Dujeux, freshly appointed head coach of FC Lorient, was joined by Lamine Mbaye and Romain Hequet, both assistants from Angers. Mbaye, a former AS Yzeure (N2) defensive midfielder, rose through Angers from U19 to the first team, passing through the reserves in N2 and N3. Hequet brings a broader résumé: US Quevilly (2012 French Cup finalist), SC Bastia, FC Sion in Switzerland and Le Havre before landing at Angers.
Why is this continuity important?
The staff retains several long‑standing figures. Ronald Thomas, goalkeeper coach since 2022, continues his work after the tenures of Régis Le Bris and Olivier Pantaloni. Pierre Bazin, physical trainer for ten years, stays alongside Quentin Gauvain. Baptiste Hermet remains in charge of the video department, assisted by Tristan Delestrez. This stability aims to support the professional squad, which has conceded 51 goals while scoring 48 this season, a –3 goal difference.
What roles do the newcomers have?
Mbaye and Hequet will handle daily player support, tactical preparation and individual monitoring. Jérémy Morel, now part of the professional staff, previously served as individual manager for the academy and will continue aiding the senior group’s youngsters. The goal is to turn continuity into performance, especially after the 0‑2 loss to Le Havre on 17 May 2026.
What impact is expected moving forward?
With a squad fighting to climb the table (31 points behind leaders Paris Saint‑Germain), the new staff must quickly turn stability into results. Recent form, 2 W‑1 D‑2 L (LLWWD), shows ups and downs. If the Angers assistants can instil tactical cohesion, Lorient could reverse the trend and aim for a mid‑table finish.
The club now relies on a blend of local experience and external expertise, a mix that may well make the difference in the coming fixtures.
